Our community mission

Our mission is to empower the human spirit towards greater awareness in making choices for growth and well-being.

Our Beginning's . . .

In 1977 a commitment was made by St. John's Cathedral to include a counselling ministry amongst our spiritual presence in the greater Hong Kong community. That humble beginning in 1977 with one counsellor was at St. John's Cathedral on Garden Road, but the demand for our professional and caring services over the years has made us relocate to a conveniently located, safe, caring, warm, and modern office located on Wyndham Street in Central Hong Kong not far from St. John's Cathedral. St. John's Cathedral counselling commitment continues to grow and professionally serve Hong Kong's vibrant multi-cultural community for children, teens, couples, families, adults and organizations regardless of residency status, race, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, religion or faith.

Our Mission and Vision

St. John's Cathedral Counselling Service community mission is "to empower the human spirit towards greater awareness in making choices for growth and well-being." Our mission statement is derived from two of the most universally accepted and successfully employed mental health counselling methods: positive psychology therapy (PPT) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). With regards to positive psychology, it's mission and ours is to understand, sustain and grow the character strengths and other related factors that allow individuals, communities and society to "flourish." CBT on the other hand has a mission at our counselling centre to increase one's insightfulness in the area of how we think (our cognitions) and how our language and cognitions have an impact and/or influence on our daily emotions and behaviors. Combined, CBT and PPT have guided our community mission, ministry vision, well-being programs and organization values into developing one of the most respected and recognized well-being counselling centers in Hong Kong.
